Microsoft 365 vs. Google Workspace: Which Makes Sense for Your Business?
Most comparisons between Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace focus on feature checklists, but for a small or mid-sized business, the decision usually comes down to a few practical realities.
First: what your team and your clients already use. If most of your staff came up on Excel and Outlook, or your clients send you complex spreadsheets and Word documents with tracked changes, Microsoft 365's tools tend to feel native rather than approximated.
Second: your existing line-of-business software. Many industry-specific applications, particularly practice management, accounting, and legal software, integrate more deeply with Outlook and Windows than with Google's ecosystem.
Third: how your team actually collaborates. Google Workspace's browser-first, real-time collaborative editing tends to suit teams that live in the browser and value simplicity, while Microsoft 365 offers deeper desktop application power alongside its own real-time co-authoring in Teams and SharePoint.
Fourth: your compliance and security requirements. Both platforms offer strong security tooling, but the depth of controls, licensing tiers, and how they map to compliance frameworks differs, and this is usually where a conversation with your IT provider adds the most value.
There's rarely a universally 'better' answer, only a better answer for how your specific business already works. That's a conversation worth having before a migration, not after.
